From the garden

The house garden and Loft gueststay
We enjoyed the pear blossom from the house last year, but this year we have pears forming. Their red skin is rich and burnished - I can't wait to see how they taste if they survive the westerly.

Our wanton heartsease and poppies have bedded down in the cos lettuce garden
I could grow passionfruit just for their luxuriant foliage and extravagant, tropical flowers. The fruit are wonderful though, and every year we say we will freeze some to remind us of summer joys through the winter months, but we never do. We just eat them.

Nik has lifted all the citrus this year, and they are very pleased at not having such wet feet. We have been rewarded with heavy flowering which perfumes the whole garden.

Persimmons are such  gorgeous trees. They have a lovely easy habit,  glossy leaves which  fire with oranges and reds in autumn, and very sweet fruit.  The subtle flowers are very elegant, and hang discreetly from the branches like tiny lanterns.
The artichokes are always a joy.  Now and again we  just chop off their heads  to keep them tidy, and they grow back like a weed with new silver foliage to shine in the garden.

These sweet peas pop up every year with the David Austin rose, whose name I fear I have forgotten. I love the way they tangle up together, and the scent is intoxicatiing.
